There is a lot to be thankful for! Cannabis has been a blessing to so many people. Whether you consider your use recreational or medical, I hope you are benefitting from the many wonder effects cannabis can have.
We are getting a lot of hybrid strains this season. I attribute this to the industry focus on terpenes over indica/sativa qualities. Terpenes are the chemicals that give plants their aromatic features. When these chemicals are consumed through cannabis, they help create the different kinds of highs that different strains create.
You might see information about terpenes in pot stores right now. Many of the higher end ones want to stay up to date on all of the new education and will have a print out about it somewhere. A good budtender should be able to help you choose strains based on their terpenes.
November is a slow month for new strains but we have been given a few solid cross strains that I’m excited to try. Sherberts and Tangie are still a big name in these strains. Citrus strains are popular. I think that people learning about terpenes makes people prioritize taste. They might not know everything about what tastes mean what, but people tend to have stronger memories of strains that have identifiable tastes. Tangie has a strong tangerine taste, which is easier to remember than Wedding Cake has a diesel-chamomile flavor that smells purple.
It has been a weird time to work in the industry. It might be a season of dormancy for everyone else, but things continue to move very fast. As I sit here with my laptop in the head shop, other stores are having major management changes and are making plans for the next year’s worth of industry activities.
Sherbert strains continue to be very popular. I think that they started being popular when the brand Exotic Genetics included a sherbert strain in their incredibly limited selection. Lemon Sorbet #3 combines Lemon OG and Sherbert, creating euphoric notes and relaxation. Sherbert has qualities that can help with mood and tension. It is bred from Pink Panties, which combines well with Lemon OG to create stronger energy effects.
Rocket Fuel is a cross between Jet Fuel OG and Face Off OG. The mix maintains the parents’ 70/30 indica dominant split. Jet Fuel is a very punch diesel strain that brings classic sativa feelings like energy and happiness. The strain’s fuel-themed flavor profile brings refreshing and relaxing peppery notes with stress relieving diesel terpenes. Face Off OG can be dizzying, and has been noted as a strong strain. Overall, the strain should be a potent indica leaning hybrid with strong stress and sadness relieving properties.
Tangie, a very popular citrus strain, as been mixed with Banana Sherbert to create this sweet and flavorful hybrid. Crockett Farms is responsible for breeding a lot of great strains, including Tangie, Strawberry Banana, Clementine, and now Banana Split. The sour fruit and diesel smells from this strain should bring stress relief and refreshing feelings. There has been a recent upswing in sweet citrus strains. Tangie has been spearheading this, as a very powerful sativa that gives very uplifting effects. Breeding that into other strains creates a lot of interesting sativa feelings. Making this strain a hybrid with Banana Sherbert will make it a potent hybrid with a variety of stress relieving effects.
Ice Cream Cake is a beautiful, beautiful breed. It’s taking top shelf lineage strains and combining them. It’s Wedding Cake and Gelato #33. You must be kidding. Wedding Cake was THE strain du-jour last year. Watching it grow (pun intended) in the industry and seeing more cross strains has been awesome. Gelato strains, especially #33, have been dominant in 2018! I can’t wait to try a combination of the best the industry has to offer. Wedding Cake was my go-to calming down strain. I have smoked over 2 ounces of it. I really needed calming down in 2017. I bought one or two eighths a week. It’s a perfect indica with great stress relief without the incapacitation of hazy strains. Exotikz, the original breeder of Wedding Cake, grows a hefty nugget of weed. Other brands haven’t lived up to the hype; Exotikz even calls their Wedding Cake “The Original Wedding Cake” now to distinguish them from imitators. Gelato #33 should be a familiar strain to anyone who has been trying new strains recently. One of its’ parents is Sunset Sherbert, is present in a few very fun strains. Sunset Sherbert contains Pink Panties, which is a weird strain that creates very psychedelic cerebral effects. Ice Cream Cake is going to be a more fun, jazzier version of Wedding Cake. I’m really looking forward to my sample of it.
